environments 6 is made of two recordings taken ten hours apart in Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, a remote 438,000-acre wetland. Irv often said “Dusk” was his favorite recording from the series and it’s easy to see why. He took his dog on this recording trip and claimed they were almost eaten by an alligator. He also claimed that this recording was featured on the Voyager “Golden Disc.” After speaking with the record’s producers Ann Druyan and Tim Ferris, it’s likely that the recording was in the running but didn’t make the final cut.
